For Founder and Curator Marina Theodotou, relocating to Nicosia after thirty three years abroad has been an interesting and often bumpy journey into a new town, a new culture and a new people. Just like Cavafy's poem, it made for a great journey, but Nicosia is neither poor nor deceiving: it has history, culture and a very sophisticated population but it ain't easy. One has to dig and peel many layers to find all its treasures while grudgingly accepting, but not necessarily agreeing with, its limitations and vast challenges.
Focusing ahead, there is plenty of potential for sustainable growth but will require organizing and measuring the best of our abilities, energies and skills, prioritizing and managing resources and engaging the highly educated and visionary Generation X and Y in a more hands-on and results oriented manner now and in the years ahead. Perhaps the greatest asset Nicosia has are its people. TEDxNicosia could perhaps be one of the platforms under way to highlight the people of this city in the few weeks and months ahead.
